ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the website located at https://acsethics.org/ (the “Site”), which is operated by the American Chemical Society Committee on Ethics (“ETHX”), a committee of the American Chemical Society (“ACS”).
By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms and the Privacy Policy for this Site. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Site.
Your use of the Site is governed by the ACS Terms of Use at https://www.acs.org/terms.html and the ACS Privacy Policy at https://www.acs.org/privacy.html, which are incorporated herein by reference. The terms below address matters specific to this Site. To the extent these Terms address a matter not covered by the ACS Terms of Use, these Terms shall apply. To the extent of any conflict, the ACS Terms of Use shall control.
PURPOSE OF THE SITE
The Site serves as the public-facing website for the ACS Committee on Ethics, whose mission is promoting professional conduct through awareness, education, and recognition. The Site provides educational resources, committee information, case studies, event and programming information, award details, committee publications and monographs, and contributor and submission materials related to ETHX initiatives.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
- Ownership: All content on the Site, including text, graphics, images, photographs, logos, data, monographs, case studies, and other materials (collectively, “Content”), is owned by or licensed to ACS and is protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
- L1imited License: ACS grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Content for personal, non-commercial, educational purposes. You may view, download, and print Content from the Site for your own non-commercial use, provided you do not modify the Content and you retain all copyright and proprietary notices.
- Restrictions: You may not, without the prior written permission of ACS:
- Reproduce, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from the Content for commercial purposes;
- Use or upload any Content into artificial intelligence tools or technologies, including large language models and generative AI systems;
- Frame or mirror any portion of the Site;
- Systematically download, scrape, or harvest Content or data from the Site; or
- Use ACS or ETHX names, logos, or trademarks in any manner that suggests endorsement by or affiliation with ACS or ETHX without prior written authorization.
- Citation: Citation to ETHX or ACS materials may not be used to imply or constitute endorsement or approval by ACS or ETHX.
- USER SUBMISSIONS
- Contributor Materials: From time to time, ETHX may invite submissions from committee members, associates, and other individuals in connection with specific initiatives (e.g., the 20th Anniversary Legacy Reflections Collection). Such submissions are governed by the terms of the applicable contributor form, including any consents and licenses granted therein.
- General Submissions: If you submit content to ETHX through the Site or by email to [email protected], you grant ACS a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, and publish such content in connection with ETHX and ACS activities. You represent and warrant that any content you submit is your original work, does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party, and that you have the authority to grant the license described in this section.
PROHIBITED CONDUCT
You agree not to:
- Use the Site in any manner that violates applicable federal, state, local, or international law or regulation;
- Attempt to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt the Site or any servers or networks connected to the Site;
- Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code to the Site;
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity;
- Engage in unauthorized data collection, scraping, or harvesting of Content or personal information from the Site; or
- Use the Site for any purpose not expressly permitted by these Terms.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including ACS division and committee pages, external publications, educational resources, and partner organizations. These links are provided for convenience only and do not constitute an endorsement by ETHX or ACS of the linked websites or their content. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party websites.
DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED ON “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
ACS AND ETHX DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. ACS AND ETHX MAKE NO REPRESENTATIONS REGARDING THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY CONTENT ON THE SITE.

TRADEMARKS
“American Chemical Society,” “ACS,” the ACS logo, “ETHX,” and all other ACS and ETHX names, logos, and service marks referenced on the Site are registered or common law trademarks of the American Chemical Society. Unauthorized use of any ACS or ETHX trademark, service mark, or logo may violate federal and state trademark laws.
PRIVACY
Your use of the Site is also governed by the Privacy Policy for this Site and the ACS Privacy Policy available at https://www.acs.org/privacy.html. By using the Site, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in those policies.
MODIFICATIONS TO THE SITE AND TERMS
ACS reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Site or any portion of the Site at any time without notice. ACS may also revise these Terms at any time by updating this page. Your continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
These Terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, United States of America, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in the District of Columbia.
SEVERABILITY
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
ENTIRE AGREEMENT
These Terms, together with the ACS Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy for this Site, and the ACS Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ACS with respect to your use of the Site, and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals relating to the Site.
